The Wilfried Zaha to Tottenham Hotspur rumours have once again re-emerged this week, in no small part due to Crystal Palace hosting the Lilywhites at Selhurst Park this evening.
Spurs are ten places above tonight’s opponents in the Premier League table but to expect an easy win would be naive in a game for which tickets are at a premium with Football TicketPad. Whilst the north Londoners are hoping to bounce back from a 4-2 defeat to Premier League title rivals Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup, Palace’s revival under Sam Allardyce has seen them claim some shock scalps in recent weeks – namely beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
“Some of the best results I’ve had in my long career as a Premier League manager, Chelsea and Liverpool away, Arsenal at home. We can’t take our foot off the gas and think we’ve done it. That’s how we beat West Brom — they hit 40 points and relaxed. It’s probably the best spell I’ve had as a manager, in terms of an eight-game period, given who we’ve beaten and how we’ve done it.”
Allardyce has described it as possibly the best run of his lengthy managerial career and the aforementioned Zaha has played a crucial role, notching up one assist and five goals in his nine appearances against top six opposition this season.
Tonight’s clash in south London will give the 24-year-old yet another chance to show what he can do against quality opposition and this time right under Mauricio Pochettino’s nose. Tottenham were sniffing around Zaha last summer and recent reports from The Times suggest they could revive their interest in the coming transfer window.
Delivering against his reported suitors would likely go a long way to convincing Spurs to put some money on the table, but the resulting question is how much the north London club would be prepared to pay for Zaha’s services. The Times claim Palace have priced the Ivory Coast international at a whopping £40million. But should Spurs pay up? Let us know by voting below…
