PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award – Premier League nominees for March

March was very much a case of business as usual for the Premier League; Manchester City continued their dominance over the rest of the division with a perfect record of four wins in four games, while the relegation battle only became more congested. But with nearly 100 goals scored throughout the Premier League, there was plenty of enthralling action and stars in top form – not least including these six, who have all been nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for March.

Mohamed Salah

Not a month has gone by this season without Mohamed Salah receiving a PFA Fans’ Player of the Month nomination and March was no different. Last month saw the Egyptian attacker raise his Premier League scoring tally for the season to 29 goals after netting six times in four appearances, including an incredible fours goals – and one assist – in a 5-0 demolition of Watford. That was one of two assists the Liverpool forward provided in March, while laying on nine key passes.

David Silva

With Kevin De Bruyne in such great form, sometimes it’s easy to forget just how important David Silva is to this relentless Manchester City side. This is already the Spaniard’s second-most affluent Premier League campaign in terms of assists, now just four shy of his haul of 15 from 2011/12 after applying three setups in March. A further three goals last month has him honing down on a career-best return of 12 league strikes in a single season as well, currently on eight.

Dele Alli

Despite this being perceived as Dele Alli’s worst season in the Premier League, the Tottenham attacker has already laid as many assists as during his debut season in the top flight, including two setups during March alone. But last month was predominantly about finding the net for the England international, particularly against Chelsea as Alli bagged a brace to record Spurs’ first top flight win at Stamford Bridge since 1990. He also hit the onion bag in a 4-1 romping over Bournemouth.

Jan Vertonghen

Jan Vertonghen’s vitality to this Tottenham team has become increasingly evident during Toby Alderweireld’s spell out of the starting XI – his Premier League outings in March saw Spurs concede just two goals in three games, also keeping a clean sheet against Huddersfield. Last month, only three players throughout the entire division made more interceptions than the Belgium international, who also won three tackles and eleven aerial duels.

Leroy Sane

What a frightening talent Leroy Sane is proving to be. March was yet another affluent month for the German international, scoring twice to maintain Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League table – most notably a stunning volley finish against Everton. He also completed the most dribbles of any player in the top flight last month, provided an assist against Arsenal and made four tackles.

Heung-min Son

The third and final Tottenham star to make the March shortlist, it was Heung-min Son who embraced the goalscoring mantle after Harry Kane hobbled off against Bournemouth, netting twice at the Vitality Stadium. Added to another brace against Huddersfield the game prior, the South Korean international scored four times in the top flight last month, while completing a whopping twelve dribbles and recording three key passes.
