With the summer transfer window in action as we speak, plenty of clubs will be selling and buying the best players around the world to strengthen their squads ahead of their new season in September.

Despite the impacts of COVID-19 on the financial landscape of football, there has been plenty of action so far this month, with lots of clubs breaking their club-record sale's just over the past few weeks, making for some of the juiciest and most interesting transfers we have seen for some time.

Next season will be different in more ways than one - and this transfer window likely won't see the world-record breaking money that has been seen spent in the previous year, but despite this, there have still been some really interesting and surprising moves from players to different clubs in the league and abroad.

Out of all of the Premier League clubs' record sales, who has the highest, who has earned the most from a big-money sale? Here, we're going to rank every Premier League club's biggest sale, ranging from lowest to highest thanks to the information provided by Transfermarkt - with some that could even be broken this summer...

20. Sheffield United - David Brooks, £10.17m

bournemouth-midfielder-david-brooks

Ahead of the 2018/19 season, Bournemouth bought David Brooks from Sheffield United for £10.17 million, making him the Blades' club-record sale to this day. During his time at Sheffield Utd, Brooks played 30 games for the club in the Championship, scoring 3 goals with 4 assists, but most of his appearances came from the bench (21).

His first season at Bournemouth showed real promise, with the midfielder recording 7 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League - and at still only 23-years-old, the midfielder has been further linked with a move away from the south coast after their relegation from the Premier League last season, with Premier League big guns Manchester United interested.

19. Brighton & Hove Albion - Anthony Knockaert, £10.53m

fulham-forward-anthony-knockaert

One of the most recent transfers on the list - Anthony Knockaert joined Fulham at the end of July from Brighton for a fee of £10.53 million, after a successful loan at the London club last season. This transfer made Knockaert the club's biggest ever sale and shows the progress that Brighton is making as a club, with Knockaert unlikely to make his way back into the Seagulls' starting XI.

Last season the forward scored 3 goals with 4 assists for the Cottagers, helping them reach the Championship play-off final, beating Brentford 2-1 to regain their Premier League status. Currently, however, Solly March has been linked with a move away from the club, and will likely fetch up to £15 million, breaking their record sale twice in one window.

18. Wolverhampton Wanderers - Hélder Costa, £15.93m

leeds-united-winger-helder-costa

The Portuguese winger had been on loan at Leeds United last season, helping them win the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League, scoring 4 goals with 4 assists in the process - and this summer, Leeds made the deal permanent for a fee of £15.93 million, making him Wolves' most expensive sale of all time.

However, current Wolves defender Matt Doherty is reportedly close to agreeing on a deal to join Tottenham, with the Wanderers looking for around £20 million, which would make Doherty the club's new record sale - broken twice in one transfer window.

17. West Bromwich Albion - Salomón Rondón, £16.44m

former-west-brom-striker-salomon-rondon

West Brom initially broke their transfer record to sign Salomón Rondón from Russian Premier League club Zenit St Petersburg for £15.30 million - and the Venezualan striker enjoyed a fruitful time at the Hawthorns, scoring 24 goals across three seasons in the Premier League. ]

The Baggies later sold Rondón to Chinese Super League club Dalian Pro for £16.44 million, making a £1.14 million profit. This sale made him the clubs most expensive sale on record - however, current West Brom winger Oliver Burke is reportedly wanted by Turkish side Trabzonspor, and with the fact that West Brom paid £15 million for the Scotsman, they won't want to lose out on any money - meaning that they might break their record sale this summer.

16. Fulham F.C. - Ryan Sessegnon, £24.30m

tottenham-defender-ryan-sessegnon

Fulham sold youngster Ryan Sessegnon to fellow London club Tottenham ahead of the 2019/20 season for a club-record fee of £24.30 million - after the now 20-year-old enjoyed a stellar few seasons at Craven Cottage, firstly helping them gain promotion to the Premier League during the 2017/18 season, and in their first season back during the 2018/19 campaign.

Since joining Tottenham, Sessegnon has had a tough start to life, after the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and the appointment of Jose Mourinho, the youngster has struggled for game time and has yet failed to make an impression.

15. Burnley F.C. - Michael Keane, £25.65m

everton-defender-michael-keane

Michael Keane was sold to Merseyside club Everton at the start of the 2017/18 season for the club record sale of £25.65 million - and has become one of the club's most important players over the past few years.

His time at Burnley was positive, helping the side to Premier League promotion from the Championship. Burnley midfielder Dwight McNeil is currently linked with a move away from the club, with Leicester, Wolves, AC Milan, and Juventus all interested, and with a market value of £22.50 million, a move for the player would likely see him become the club's new record sale.

14. West Ham - Dimitri Payet, £26.37m

marseille-forward-dimitri-payet

The Frenchman initially joined West Ham ahead of the 2015/16 season from Marseille, and he took the Premier League by storm. Payet scored 9 goals with 12 assists in his first season with the Hammers, but the tale didn't have its happy ending, and midway through the 2016/17 season, Payet forced a move back to French club Marseille - for the club's record sale fee of £26.37 million.

This summer has seen current West Ham players Felipe Anderson and Declan Rice rumoured with a move away, and either players' current market values would more than certainly help fetch a healthy fee and break the club's record sale if either is sold.

13. Arsenal F.C. - Marc Overmars, £36m

former-arsenal-winger-marc-overmars

The oldest record sale on the list, the Gunners sold Dutch winger Marc Overmars to Spanish giants FC Barcelona back in 2000, for a fee of £36 million.

Overmars spent 4 years at the Nou Camp, scoring 15 goals with 14 assists in his 97 league games for the club. Arsenal came close to breaking this record 2 years ago, with the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Premier League rivals Liverpool, for a fee of £34.20 million.

This season, however, the club has been rumoured to sell forward Alexandre Lacazette, and if the Frenchman were to leave, it would likely break the amount of the record sale from Overmars.

12. Newcastle United - Andy Carroll, £36.90m

newcastle-united-striker-andy-carroll

After breaking into Newcastle's first team at the age of 17, Carroll went on to become a regular for the Magpies and was eventually sold to Liverpool back in 2011 for a fee of £36.90 million.

His time on Merseyside wasn't great, and the striker was eventually offloaded to fellow Premier League club West Ham, where he played for 6 years before securing a move back to his boyhood club Newcastle ahead of last season.

The club doesn't currently look to break their record sale, with no players being linked with a move away from St James' Park as of yet.

11. Manchester City - Leroy Sané, £40.50m

former-manchester-city-forward-leroy-sane

The German winger first joined Manchester City from German club Schalke 04 for £46.80 million back in 2016, and enjoyed a successful period with the Citizens, winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups, two Charity Shields, and the FA Cup.

Despite the success, Sané chose to leave the club this summer and signed for German giants Bayern Munich for £40.50 million - meaning City lost £6.30 million from the sale, despite the 24-year-olds £72 million market value. His sale in July made Sané the club's new record sale, previously held by Danilo to Juventus for £33.30 million in 2019.

10. Leeds United - Rio Ferdinand, £41.40m

former-manchester-united-defender-rio-ferdinand

Often referred to as one of the best defenders to play the game - Rio Ferdinand became Leeds United's club-record sale when he joined Manchester United for £41.40 million ahead of the 2002/03 season. Ferdinand enjoyed the best years of his career at United, winning an incredible six Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, three League Cups, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and six Charity Shields.

Leeds are yet to even come close to the fee they sold Ferdinand for, with their second-highest sale being that of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink for £15.03 million to Atletico Madrid.

9. Aston Villa - Christian Benteke, £41.85m

former-aston-villa-striker-christian-benteke

The Belgian striker became a cult name for Villa fans, scoring 19 Premier League goals in his first season for the Villans. This fine form saw him move to fellow Premier League club Liverpool for £41.85 million in 2015, becoming Villa's club record sale.

This move broke the previous record held by Stewart Downing also for his move to Liverpool for £20.52 million. The club may possibly smash this record this season, with Jack Grealish linked with a move to Manchester United, and Villa valuing him at £75 million.

8. Crystal Palace - Aaron Wan-Bissaka, £49.50m

manchester-united-defender-aaron-wan-bissaka

The 22-year-old joined Manchester United at the start of last season for a club-record sale of £49.50 million from Crystal Palace. Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed a great season prior to his move for Palace, and earned the nickname 'The Spider', due to his prolific tackling from right-back. The record was previously held by Yannick Bolasie who joined Everton for £26.01 million in 2016, and the club doesn't look likely to be breaking this record anytime soon.

7. Southampton - Virgil van Dijk, £76.19m

liverpool-defender-virgil-van-dijk

The Dutch defender joined Liverpool for £76.19 million during the winter transfer window of 2018 - and has gone on to become one of the best players in the world.

Since joining the club, van Dijk has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and the Premier League - the Reds' first league title for 30 years. Southampton originally signed the player from Celtic for £14.13 million in 2015 - and made a £62,020,000 million profit.

The Saints likely won't be breaking this record anytime soon, with the sale of van Dijk being the world transfer record for a defender at the time.

6. Everton F.C. - Romelu Lukaku, £76.23m

former-manchester-united-striker-romelu-lukaku

Everton sold Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United at the start of the 2017/18 season for £76.23 million, making him the Toffee's new record sale after John Stones, who was sold to Manchester City for £50.04 million jus the season before.

Lukaku's time at Manchester United was painful to watch, with the striker not suiting to the play style, and the club failing to find a manager who's system would suit the goalscoring machine. At the start of last season, the striker was sold to Italian side Inter Milan and scored 23 league goals for the club - once again proving the talent and goalscoring prowess that he possesses.

5. Leicester City - Harry Maguire, £78.30m

manchester-united-defender-harry-maguire

Another Manchester United purchase - the Foxes sold the English defender to the Red Devils before the start of last season, for a fee of £78.30 million, making him the world's most expensive defender. Since joining the club, Maguire has helped United to a 3rd place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football for next season.

Leicester made a big profit on the sale of Maguire, with their previous record departure being Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City, for £61.02 million in 2018.

4. Manchester United - Cristiano Ronaldo, £84.60m

real-madrid-unveiling-the-signing-of-cristiano-ronaldo

Back in 2009, Real Madrid broke the world transfer record when they bought Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for £84.60 million - with the Portuguese winger going on to become one of the best players of all time. Ronaldo has won just about every trophy possible for him to win during his career, including 5 Ballon d'Or's over recent years.

There had been glimpses of his star quality at the Red Devils, but his goalscoring records since then have shown just how incredible he is, a truly generational talent that we have been lucky enough to watch in the flesh. Manchester United's previous record sale had been David Beckham, who the club also sold to Real Madrid, for a fee of £33.75 million in 2003.

3. Tottenham Hotspur - Gareth Bale, £90.90m

real-madrid-winger-gareth-bale

Tottenham sold Welsh winger Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in 2013, for the then world-record fee of £90.90 million. Since joining Madrid, the Welshman has won four Champions League's, two La Liga titles, the Spanish Cup, the Spanish Super Cup, three UEFA Super Cup's, and four Club World Cups.

His time at the club has been mixed, however, with the fans not taking too well to Bale despite single-handedly winning them the Champions League in 2018, and the Copa del Rey in 2014.

Before Tottenham sold Bale, the club's previous record sale was Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United, for a fee of £34.20 million in 2008.

2. Chelsea F.C. - Eden Hazard, £103.50m

real-madrid-winger-eden-hazard

One of only two £100m+ players on the list - Chelsea sold Belgian winger Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in 2019, for £103.50 million. The transfer was made after a long period in which a move was rumoured between Hazard and Real, with the player stating numerous times that they were his dream club.

Since joining, Hazard has won the La Liga title with the club but has failed to make much of an impression on the pitch, with just 1 goal and 3 assists in 16 league appearances. The Blues made a tidy £72 million profit from the sale of Hazard - with their previous record sale being Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid for £59.40 million in 2017.

1. Liverpool F.C. - Philippe Coutinho, £130.50m

barcelona-forward-philippe-coutinho

The most expensvie player on the list - Liverpool sold Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho to Spanish giants Barcelona in 2017, for £130.50 million, making him the current most expensive midfielder of all time. During his time at Liverpool Coutinho had become a fan favourite and a household name, but left the club due to his desire to win trophies.

Since his departure, both himself and Liverpool have gone on to win plenty of silverware - but Coutinho's time on the field has been turbulent.

Last season he was loaned out to German club Bayern Munich after falling out of favour at the Nou Camp, and went on to win the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League - which saw Coutinho and Bayern beat this parent club Barcelona in the semi-finals of the competition with an 8-2 victory, with Coutinho scoring two goals as well as getting an assist in the game. Liverpool's record sale before Coutinho was Luis Suarez, also to Barcelona, for £73.55 million in 2014.
