Supposed Chelsea target Ross Barkley has been slapped with a transfer fee of £50million. Given he is an English player, you would expect a big price tag – but £50million is how much Jose sold David Luiz for. Rather than splashing the cash on the Everton man, here are some other options for Chelsea to consider ahead of the new season.
Marco Verratti put on an absolute masterclass at Stamford Bridge when his Paris Saint-Germain side knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League. and while he’s just a year older than Ross Barkley, he is already regarded as one of the hottest young talents in the world right now.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has claimed he does not need Paul Pogba, but Pogba would be a far better addition to his already strong squad. The Frenchman has a rumoured price tag of around £77million – a steep cost, but he would be an investment. He’s another young talent who is one of the best of the world.
Sami Khedira will be leaving Real Madrid this summer, and could make a move to the Premier League. Arsenal are in the running to sign the German, but if Chelsea showed interest, no doubt Khedira would opt for Jose’s men, particularly as Chelsea are on course to win the Premier League.
Another Real Madrid man who could make the switch is Isco. He is only 22-years-old himself, and is taking La Liga by storm with three goals and eight assists to his name so far this season. Jose’s midfield is already one of the best in the league, and Isco would fit right in alongside the likes of Oscar and Eden Hazard.
If Jose is to strengthen his squad, he has plenty of options to choose from. Ross Barkley has not done enough to justify his massive price tag – which is probably all down to Roberto Martinez.
Look elsewhere in foreign leagues – there are just as many gems for a reasonable price.
