Apparently James Milner was pretty happy with his Liverpool debut. A debut that saw himself and his midfield partner, Jordan Henderson, widely lamented for their lack of creativity in the centre of the park.
“Where was Steven Gerrard?” they asked. And they were presumably the Liverpool fans that had suffered severe memory loss over the last 18 months. They who had already managed to replace the image of the panting, pained Gerrard for the earlier Stevie G who raced all over the field putting out fires as often as he started them.
Daley Blind knows this is all a fools game. The Manchester United midfielder (?) has given up these over-glamourised duties for the more simple pleasures of protecting his team’s goal. This would have nothing to do with his manager’s (dogmatic?) preference for always playing a left-footed centre-back. No, of course not.
Watch our very own Marcus Speller as he muses on what these players, and others, really meant by their quotes this week …
