Arsenal and Chelsea trade blows in hunt for striker

Luis Suarez

The battle between Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Luis Suarez appears to be intensifying according to the Daily Star, with players from both clubs talking up the possibility of the striker signing for their respective teams.

The future of the Liverpool forward has been the topic of constant debate this summer, and both London clubs are thought to be keen to ensure the Uruguayan stays in England, despite his insistence the English press have made it impossible for him to stay.

But with Real Madrid yet to launch an offer, Suarez is aware that one of the two may prove his only escape route from Anfield.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has revealed he would relish the opportunity to play alongside Suarez at the Emirates.

He told L’Equipe: “Luis Suarez is someone with whom I could have a good feeling with on the pitch, so I am for his arrival. I’m not afraid of competition.

“With Arsenal we want to qualify for the Champions League.”

While Arsenal have already had a bid rejected for the striker, Chelsea appear to have not ruled out the opportunity of signing him.

Even Branislav Ivanovic, who was famously bitten by Suarez in the end of season clash last season declared he would welcome the forward at Stamford Bridge.

He said in Bangkok: “About Luis Suarez, I said straight after the game, whatever happened on the field finished there.

“He’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League. I don’t have any problem with him.”

Liverpool are adamant however they will not consider selling their star man, until the player’s release clause of £40million is triggered.
