The Midlanders are desperate to tie him down to a new contract, and have opened talks with the youngster.
However, Everton and Arsenal are monitoring the situation and could pounce if there are any signs of unrest.
The Toffees are believed to hold the strongest interest, with said to have Roberto Martinez instructed scouts to watch the player during next weekend’s action.
Arsenal are also keen on the attacker, who fled war-torn Burundi ant the age of 10 before pursuing a football career with West Brom.
