Arsenal and Liverpool target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is holding talks over a possible new deal at Schalke, as the German side aim to secure his future amid continued interest from the Premier League clubs.
The 31 year-old striker will be a free agent in the summer, and while Schalke were prepared to accept bids for the player during the January transfer window, he is now purported to be keen on remaining at the club, with Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldth revealing that negotiations over a renewed contract have begun.
Speaking to German paper BILD, Heldth said: “I am able to confirm a chat with Huntelaar.
“It was a good conversation. Both parties have signalled a basic interest in a new agreement to carry on together in the future.”
Interest in Huntelaar has come after the Dutchman enjoyed a prolific start to the season, scoring seven times in 11 appearances, including an equalising goal against Chelsea in the Champions League.
