Arsenal and Liverpool to battle for Greek star

Konstantinos Mitroglou (Olympiakos)Arsenal and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head in the race for Olympiakos striker Konstantinos Mitroglou, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Greek international has made an excellent start to the season, attracting attention from a number of European sides.

The likes of Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Genoa, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon have all been mentioned as potential suitors, as well as Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Premier League duo are both thought to be in the market for attacking additions this January in a bid to maintain their excellent starts to 2013/14.

Mitroglou is believed to be valued at around £7m by Olympiakos, who are currently gripped by financial uncertainty.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is hopeful that he can use his club’s relationship with the Greek giants to his advantage, with current Arsenal youngster Joel Campbell currently on loan at the club.

Meanwhle, Liverpool are confident that their ambitious plans could convince 25-year-old to make the move to Anfield.

Mitroglou spent the majority of last season drifting in and out of Olympiakos’ first-team, but still managed to bag an impressive 20 goals.
