The Spanish number 1 has become unsettled at the Bernabeu during Jose Mourinho’s time as manager.
Casillas only played 19 matches last season, as the Portuguese manager dropped the shot stopper for fellow Spaniard Diego Lopez. The 32-year-old didn’t feature for Madrid in the Champions League after the group stages, as he watched his side face Manchester United, Galatasaray and Borussia Dortmund from the substitutes bench.
Despite Mourinho leaving the Bernabeu for Chelsea, Casillas’ luck hasn’t changed. New manager Carlo Ancelotti has also put his faith in Lopez, who has played in all three of Real’s La Liga matches so far this season.
With the star keeper, who has won the World Cup and two European Championships, unhappy at the Spanish capital, both Manchester City and Arsenal are keen on bidding for Casillas in January, with the offer of first team football. The Gunners have been keen to find a rival for Wojciech Szczesny, despite signing Emiliano Viviano on loan from Palermo.
Manchester City number 1 Joe Hart has been unchallenged at the Etihad, despite recently making mistakes for both club and country. The signing of Iker Casillas could rival Hart, and improve his performances.
Who should sign Casillas, Arsenal or City?
