Arsenal and Man City face fight for Spanish superstar

iker-casillasArsenal and Manchester City will have to fight off interest from Borussia Dortmund if they are to seal a deal for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, according to reports from The Independent.

The Spanish international captain has slipped down the pecking order at the Bernabeu under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is believed to prefer Diego Lopez.

This has prompted speculation that he could leave his boyhood club this winter in search of first-term football ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Naturally, interest in the 32-year-old is high and now Dortmund have entered the race.

The Champions League runners-up have reportedly made tentative enquiries regarding the stopper, and are keen to follow this up with a concrete move if given the green light.

Both City and Arsenal were linked with moves for Casillas’ signature over the summer, and are rumoured to still be interested ahead of the January transfer window.

Citizens chief Manuel Pellegrini sees the experienced Spaniard as an ideal replacement for Joe Hart, while Arsene Wenger is thought to have made a reliable number one, one of his top priorities.

But, the duo will have to beat Dortmund, who have emerged as one of Europe’s top sides in recent years.
