Arsenal and Manchester City are ready to go head-to-head in the race for Charlton Athletic wonderkid Joe Gomez, according to the Express.
The 17-year-old defender has impressed for the Addicks this season and has also represented England at U19 level.
His form in the Championship has seen him emerge as one of England’s hottest prospects, and has sparked interest from the likes of Arsenal and Man City in recent weeks.
And the Express believe the £8million-rated star is about to be the subject of a bidding war between the Premier League duo.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has a history of signing promising teenagers and moulding them in to Premier League regulars, while Manchester City are eager to boost their home-grown quota for next season after breaking Financial Fair Play rules.
Gomez was nominated for the Championship’s Apprentice of the Year Award, but eventually lost out to Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook.
