Arsenal and Newcastle told to stump up £13m

Lille Midfielder Florian Thauvin

Arsenal and Newcastle United target Florian Thauvin will cost £13million, reports the Express.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, despite not playing a competitive match for Lille yet.

Thauvin was signed from Bastia in January, but was instantly loaned back to the Ligue 1 side, meaning he is still yet to wear the Red shirt. But the English duo have been quoted the fee in Lille’s attempts to deter rivals Marseille from bidding.

“What could happen is that Lille say, ‘OK, we will sell him but only for €15m (£13m),” said a close source to the club.

“You see, at the end of the day, they [Marseille] do not want him that much.”

The asking price, over four times as much as Lille paid for the 20-year-old, isn’t expected to deter Arsenal and Newcastle too much, with both teams considering lodging another bid for the midfielder. Both sides are thought to have made a bid for the starlet last year, only for Thauvin to join Lille instead.

The youngster scored seven goals last season, before adding a further three to his name during the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where his strong performances impressed once more as he went on to lift the trophy.

Arsene Wenger and Alan Pardew will turn their attention back to their own sides ahead of the start of the new season on Saturday.
