Arsenal and Tottenham set for transfer disappointment

Angel Di MariaArsenal and Tottenham’s hopes of a January move for Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria have taken a blow, after the attacker confirmed that he is set to stay with the La Liga giants.

The Premier League duo were both heavily linked with moves for the Argentine over the summer, with the arrival of Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu believed to have all but ended his time at the club.

However, neither side could force through a deal for the wide-man – who is rated at around £25m.

With his first-team opportunities likely to be limited, it has been suggested that Arsenal and Spurs may return with fresh offers when the transfer window reopens, but Di Maria believes that he will be staying and says that manager Carlo Ancelotti has out his faith in him:

“Yes I will be staying here,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.

“I have the confidence of the coach, I am very happy and my family also, which is the most important thing.”

The 25-year-old was believed to be on the verge of a deadline day move to Arsenal, but the Gunners instead opted to sign his team-mate Mesut Ozil.

Spurs were also linked with his signature, and it was rumoured that he could be involved in the deal to take Bale to Madrid.
