The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal’s misfiring winger Andrey Arshavin could be a transfer target for Lazio.
The Russian has found himself starting games from the bench for much of the season and has continued to cut a frustrated figure whenever he does feature.
But with Arsene Wenger insisting that a new deal for the Russian is unlikely, the Arsenal boss is likely to cut his losses on a player whose contract runs out in 18 months.
It is thought that an offer in the region of the quoted £6 million would be enough to tempt the Gunners into the sale, however, replacements will be needed due to Gervinho’s participation in the African Cup of Nations.
Arshavin began his Arsenal career in sensational form. He was the sole goal-scorer for the Gunners in their 4-4 draw away to Liverpool in 2009 and started the following season in equally impressive fashion.
The Russian has since failed to emulate those highs and has scored just the one goal in the league this season in Arsenal’s 1-0 home win over Swansea.
Wenger has continued to keep faith with Arshavin, who tallied up 10 goals last season in all competitions. But due to Arshavin being one of the highest earners at the club, Wenger is likely to be tempted by the offer from Lazio.
