Arsenal lined up with Alexis Sanchez leading the line against Southampton due to absences of Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud.
Welbeck misses today’s game due to injury; he can’t help that. However, Giroud is unavailable for selection due to the moment of idocicy on Boxing Day against Queens Park Rangers which saw the 28-year-old receive a three-match ban.
Today’s clash against Southampton is the second of Giroud’s ban, however, there is already a growing feeling that the French international’s moment of madness is already costing the Gunners.
Against the Hammers, Giroud’s absence wasn’t felt due to Arsenal’s ability to play on the counter against Big Sam’s side, with Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez able to explode forward. However, the Saints aren’t offering Arsenal such a luxury and Alexis Sanchez is, despite all his world-class talent, struggling to hold the line.
Will Giroud’s losing of his cool, cost Arsene Wenger’s side?
Still seething at Giroud’s idiocy

That Giroud red card really hurt us. No height in the attack at all.
