Arsenal make the trip to Upton Park knowing that they are below West Ham in the Premier League and that the Hammers are well in the hunt for the Gunners’ usual fourth place finish in the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger’s side have had a real Jekyl and Hyde start to the season, with a lot of Arsenal’s problems coming from the fact that their defensive ranks have been depleted. Therefore, you can imagine there were an awful lot of Gooners concerned about the back four that would be chosen to combat Andy Carroll’s aerial presence and the pace of Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia.
You needn’t have worried, though, Arsenal fans as Wenger sprung a Christmas miracle with Laurent Koscielny restored to the starting line-up today – the Frenchman had been expected to make the matchday 18 but not to start so soon after returning to injury.
Love to see the Mertesacker/Koscielny pairing back in action
