Arsenal to hijack Man United deal for midfielder

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports in the Daily Express.

It was previously believed that Gundogan’s move to Manchester was as good as sealed but it would seem that Arsenal have different intentions.

The German defensive midfielder has yet to sign a new deal with Dortmund who would appear to have all but resigned to losing the player during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal may see Gundogan as a potential replacement for Mikel Arteta as well as a good role model for Francis Coquelin, who is still learning the game.

If Dortmund refuse to accept a cash deal for the midfielder this summer than they will be faced with the harsh reality of losing one of their top assets on a free when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Borussia Dortmund currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga table on 36 points.
