Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle with Arsenal for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot according to France Football, as cited in The Mirror.

What's the story?

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder came through the youth system at PSG and has finally established himself among their team of global stars.

The France international enjoyed a solid campaign last season, making 33 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring once and assisting five goals, and he averaged an impressive 92 per cent passing accuracy.

His form has attracted interest from Europe's top clubs and according to the report, Spurs boss Maurichio Pochettino wants him as a replacement for Mousa Dembele, but Arsenal are also interested in the young star who is valued at £45million on Transfermarkt.

Why he would be a great fit at Arsenal

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery helped make Rabiot into the quality player he is today and he clearly feels that he can continue his development in the Premier League.

It looks like Arsenal are set to sign Lucas Torreira imminently but defensive midfield is an area that Arsenal have needed strengthening for a while and the pair could form a strong partnership that would form the base of their team.

Rabiot is unlikely to enjoy such prominence in a Tottenham team which already has an established system, but he could join an exciting project at Arsenal from the start.

He's made in the Arsenal mould as an elegant and composed ball-playing midfielder, but he has a steel that they have been lacking since the days of Patrick Vieira.

Rabiot wouldn't come cheap, and it's still possible that he's flirting with an exit just to gain a new contract at PSG, but if there's any possibility he could reunite with Emery, Arsenal should do all they can to make it happen.
