The Anzhi Makhachkala star made 17 appearances in the Russian Premier League, scoring just the one goal. However, Ahmedov is confident that Arsene Wenger is after his signature.
“It is true I have interest from Arsenal – their scouts have watched me in every match this season,” Ahmedov told Russian newspaper Izvestia.
“If I move there, I could be a huge success but there is no bid yet.”
Ahmedov scored twice in the Europa League this season, as Anzhi reached the round of 16, only for Newcastle to knock them out of the competition thanks to a 93rd minute goal from Papiss Cisse.
Wenger could bring Ahmedov to the Emirates this summer, as he prepares for a high spending transfer window. The Gunners qualified for the Champions League on the last day of the season, and Wenger will be rewarded by being given a £70million transfer kitty by Ivan Gazidis.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals for the Uzbekistan national team, and was the nation’s Player of the Year in 2009 and 2011.
Arsenal have also been linked with Marouane Fellaini, but Wenger is reluctant to trigger his £23million release clause in his contract and Ahmedov could be a cheaper option for the Frenchman.
Is Ahmedov the right man for the Gunners? Is he a better option than Fellaini?
