Arsenal £10m short in opening bid for priority transfer target

According to reports from The Sun, Arsenal have tabled a £28million transfer bid for priority strike target Alvaro Morata.

Arsene Wenger has reportedly grown frustrated with his current strike options, namely Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, who managed just 21 Premier League goals between them last season, whilst Danny Welbeck will start the 2016/17 campaign on the sidelines through injury.

That appears to have convinced the Gunners gaffer to launch a £28million bid for Juventus star Alvaro Morata who, despite being rated as one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe, has found himself stuck behind Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in the pecking order this season.

However, Real Madrid are ready to activate a buy-back option for the 23-year-old, before selling him on with a considerable markup, and Arsenal’s opening offer is around £10million below their £38million valuation.

That’s worrying news for Gunners fans, amid reports Los Blancos are hoping to lure Chelsea and Manchester City into the battle for Morata’s coveted signature.
