The Gunners won 3-0 in Turkey in the first leg of their Champions League play-off match, all but securing their place in the Group stages of the competition.
The French defender is confident that now they have shown that, baring a collapse at the Emirates, they will be in the elite European competition, players will want to join them. The full-back believes that their involvement in the competition will make them a more attractive club.
“Getting into the Champions League is so important for the club in terms of moving forward and attracting new players and also for the players and the fans. For many years now we have become used to qualifying for the Champions League,” Sagna said.
“We knew it was a big game and that we had to perform and we did it well. It was a great night for Arsenal.”
The Gunners have been linked with Real Madrid duo Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria, as well as Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye. With all three players wanting to play in the Champions League, Arsenal’s defeat of Fernerahce may just open up Arsene Wenger’s wallet.
The Gunners face Fulham on Saturday, as they look for their first win of the new Premier League season.
Do fans agree with Sagna? Will this open the floodgates for new players?
