CIES are a research group from Switzerland and have created an algorithm that determines transfer market values, based on metrics that take into account player age, performances, contract length and recent transfer fees.
And according to their latest report, Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin is the most valuable defender in world football, ranking 25th in their chart of the game’s top stars and apparently worth a whopping £43.1million.
That puts him one place above Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, despite the Citizens splashing out a club-record £55million transfer fee on the Belgium international last summer.
Bellerin has enjoyed a meteoric rise since becoming an Arsenal regular midway through the 2014/15 campaign, going on to establish himself as one of the top attacking full-backs in Europe.
He claimed a place in the Premier League’s PFA Team of the Year last season and has been selected by Vincente del Bosque for Spain’s Euro 2016 squad.
