As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are making contingency plans should the worst happen and they lose their star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The prospect of losing Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez is a grim one for Arsenal fans. They may be buoyed though by the news that the Gunners are taking steps to ensure to don’t miss a step should the stars leave.
The Telegraph reckon that they’re targeting Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus should they fail to reach agreement on new contracts with the pair.
Renewing those contracts is still said to be the priority but with contract offers well short of the players’ expectations so far, plans have to be made.
The paper say that Arsenal are unwilling to let the pair enter the last year of their contract without the situation coming to a head and moving them on.
Is Reus enough of a player to replace either of Arsenal’s in-form heroes?
One thing he certainly offers is the same versatility, able to play through the middle spearheading the attack or on either wing.
The attacker has been in lethal form for Dortmund since returning from a long-term injury that kept him out until November. Since his return he’s scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in just 6 appearances.
That’s the kind of form that both Ozil and Sanchez have been showing this season so it’s no surprise the German is being spoken about as a potential replacement.
Overall he’s scored 80 goals in 171 appearances for Dortmund meanwhile at Arsenal, Ozil has 29 in 137 and Sanchez has 56 in 117.
