Arsenal and England star ruled out for months after surgery

Arsenal star Danny Welbeck is set to face a sustained spell away from action, as he undergoes knee surgery, reports The Independent.

The Gunners have revealed the £16m star is set to miss ‘a period of months’ after facing surgery on his left knee ‘from the injury sustained at the end of April.’

The England international’s absence leaves only Olivier Giroud as an out-and-out centre forward, with Theo Walcott set to be deployed in the role.

Manager Arsene Wenger presided over a quiet transfer window, with goalkeeper Petr Cech being the only arrival from city rivals Chelsea.

This meant the North London side were the only outfit in Europe’s top five leagues not to bring in a senior outfield player, leading to backlash from some sections of the Emirates support.

The 24-year old signed for the Gunners from Manchester United last year, and netted 8 times in 31 appearances.

The former Old Trafford trainee, who scored the winner against his former side in their FA quarter final victory last season, had been hoped to avoid surgery.

However, he now faces a lengthy spell out, which will surely lead to more questions asked regarding Arsenal’s transfer policy.
