Arsenal have announced a deal in principle for Japanese striker Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
The 21-year-old Japan international will complete his move to the Emirates Stadium following completion of a medical and regulatory processes.
It’s perhaps not the big-name striker Arsenal fans are eager for the club to secure this summer, but boss Arsene Wenger has talked up Asano’s ability and confirmed he is a signing for the future.
He told Arsenal.com: “Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future.
“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”
Since making his debut for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2013, Asano has made 83 first team appearances, scoring 21 goals.
The highly-rated striker has won the J1 League in 2013 and 2015, the Japanese Cup in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and was voted as the J-League ‘Rookie of the Year in 2015.
Asano is the second summer addition to Arsene Wenger’s squad, following the £30m capture of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka.
