Barcelona have set the asking price for Arsenal and Tottenham target Andre Gomes at £20m, according to Spanish outlet Sport, via the Daily Mirror.

What's the latest, then?

The report says that Gomes is one of a number of players at the Nou Camp who is surplus to requirements and Barcelona wish to sell him to the Premier League, with the north London rivals both waiting to pounce.

It claims that the Gunners are unwilling to meet the relatively modest asking price for the Portuguese international, raising the possibility that he may move to Tottenham.

It says that Unai Emery is trying to force down the asking price for Gomes but Barcelona want to raise cash to bolster their squad, which creates an interesting stand-off.

What should Arsenal do next?

Emery's summer spending has already taken a huge chunk out of a transfer budget that was reported to be in the region of £50m, and his desire to drive the price down means that he risks missing out on Gomes.

Meanwhile, Spurs are yet to kick off their summer spending so £20m for a man to replace Mousa Dembele should be affordable, so there is the very real risk there that Gomes will choose to move to the white half of north London.

That may not be a bad thing for the Gunners given their plethora of midfield options they already have however, with Mohamed Elneny, Lucas Torreira, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles among those that will be fighting for a spot in the centre of the park, which suggests they don't need the Portuguese ace and that any remaining budget would be better spent elsewhere.
