The German international has told the Gunners that he won’t discuss a new deal until after the European Championship in France this summer, where Die Mannschaft will be amongst the favourites for the 2016 title.
There has been worryingly little progress made since the north London club first opened talks with the 27-year-old in August 2015 and this is now the second round of talks Ozil has effectively snubbed.
More crucially, the attacking midfielder is now set to enter the summer transfer window with just two years remaining on the contract he signed when arriving from Real Madrid, costing a club-record £42million fee, in 2013.
That will almost certainly draw Arsenal’s European rivals to the 2014 World Cup winner as his value begins to depreciate – and the Gunners have to consider the prospect of losing him for free a few years down the line.
Arsenal fan and journalist Piers Morgan has further alleged on Twitter that Ozil has received ‘discrete offers’ from Bayern Munich and Barcelona – although reputable source has substantiated that claim.
