After falling behind within the first minute of their clash against Everton on Sunday afternoon, Arsenal eventually managed to turn things around and eke out a 3-2 victory at the Emirates.

The Gunners made life difficult for themselves, conceding twice from set-pieces, and needed goals from Eddie Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Auvameyang (2), to seal all three points.

But whilst Mikel Arteta took the opportunity to hail the latter as his side's "most important player" following his latest goal-scoring display, one man who the north Londoners should instead be directing their praise towards, is Bernd Leno.

The German has had a busy campaign in between the sticks for the Gunners, with his total of 98 saves in the Premier League putting him only behind Newcastle's Martin Dubravka in the rankings. That is a remarkable statistic given Arsenal's status as a big side, and points to just how frail their defence has been all season.

Leno has had to be on his A-game for much of the season, and against Everton, he produced exactly that. Whilst there may be some blame at his door for not being quick enough to deny Richarlison's equaliser, the 27-year-old more than made up for it with a string of hugely impressive stops, with all of them coming from efforts taken inside the box.

The most eye-catching one was undeniably the point-blank reflex save to stop Dominic Calvert-Lewin making it 3-3 in the second-half. After a downward header from Richarlison saw the Toffees striker receive the ball just yards from the net, Leno stuck out a flailing right arm to deflect the ball away from the most improbable of situations.

And then, just to show that he is as good with his feet as he is with his hands, he scampered from his goal to clear a superbly weighted pass from Andre Gomes that almost set Richarlison free.

Having scored two goals, Aubameyang will no doubt make the headlines for the game. But in reality, the Gunners should be really thankful for having Leno as their goalkeeper as they picked up all three points.
