Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla could be ruled out for long than expected following knee surgery, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spaniard had been expected to miss around three months after coming off injured in the recent draw with Norwich at Carrow Road.
However, the situation is clearly worse than initially anticipated after the 30-year old went under the knife prior to Saturday’s home win over Sunderland.
When asked about the extent of his injury, the Gunners chief replied: ‘It’s not the season. It is at least three months, maybe four.’
The former Malaga man adds to a growing list of casualties for the Gunners after midfield partner Francis Coquelin was ruled out for three months late last month.
Skipper Mikel Arteta also limped off in the loss against West Brom at the Hawthorns, depleting the Emirates engine room even further.
With Jack Wilshere also out injured, Wenger has seen his options severely limited heading into a busy Christmas period.
Wenger has had to deploy makeshift duo Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini in central berths as a result following this recent spate of knocks.
