Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has demanded that the club’s board do everything in their power to beat rivals such as Chelsea to the signature of Everton’s John Stones, according to reports from Metro.
The England international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top centre-backs over the course of the past 18 months and attracted serious attention over the summer.
Everton, however, held firm to keep their man despite numerous bids from Chelsea – which rose to around £30m – but a scramble led by the Blues is expected in January.
Yet, Metro, citing Fichajes, claim that Wenger has personally asked for Stones to be brought to Arsenal.
The Merseysiders are understood to want close to £45m for their man, which would appear to be the going rate for English talent following Raheem Sterling’s move from Liverpool to Manchester City during the last window.
Stones could be a long-term partner for Laurent Koscielny, with Per Mertesacker’s dwindling mobility a worry in London.
