Arsenal boss had no idea Man Utd star was available

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed Monaco told him that star forward Anthony Martial was not for sale, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year old moved to Manchester United in a stunning £36.6m deal, potentially rising to around £58m if certain criteria are met.

The deal made him the most expensive teenager in world football, and has gone on to score four goals in his opening five appearances.

He had been linked with Arsenal previously, after helping the Ligue 1 side eliminate the Gunners from last year’s Champions League.

Now, Wenger has admitted he was ‘surprised they sold him’, and ‘he was one of the players Monaco did not want to sell, so we never made an approach for him.’

The French international will square off against Wenger’s side, as the two sides meet tomorrow with the Red Devils atop the Premier League.

The Martial deal initially shocked swathes of fans and pundits alike, but the youngster has impressed during his short time at Old Trafford.
