Arsenal boss hints at possible January transfer

Wayne RooneyArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that he may make a January move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Gunners were linked with the England international throughout the summer, but failed to secure a deal.

‘Wazza’ was believed to be unsettled at Old Trafford after being excluded from the starting line-up under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

He has since returned to the first team with David Moyes now in charge, which has prompted talk that he may opt to stay.

However, when asked about a possible move for Rooney this winter, Wenger refused to rule out the possibility:

“I will wait now until December to see what we need in the squad.”

Wenger went on to say that much depends on the form of his current strikers:

“We spoke about (Nicklas) Bendtner, (Yaya) Sanogo, (Olivier) Giroud. If the three do well, I am in no need to buy any striker.”

The Arsenal boss is said to have around £40m to spend when the transfer window re-opens, despite having splashed £42.5m to sign Mesut Ozil.

Rooney was also linked with Chelsea over the summer, who may return if there are any signs of unrest.
