Arsenal boss in transfer U-turn, exit-bound star now set to stay

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to keep David Ospina at the club as Petr Cech’s No.2 despite interest in the player from Besiktas, according to reports from ESPN.

The Colombia international arrived at the club in the summer of 2014 after an impressive World Cup showing with his home country, but after dislodging Wojciech Szczesny to become his manager’s main stopper he’s slipped down the pecking order over the course of the past 12 months.

Cech, signed from Chelsea last year, has become the undisputed No.1 in the red half of north London, which has forced Ospina into a back-up role.

The 27-year-old has since been heavily linked with a move for Turkish Super Lig champions Besiktas amid claims he was no longer wanted, but reports reveal that Wenger is now eager to keep him in England.

It’s understood that the Frenchman rates the ex-Nice goalie highly and his presence as the Gunners flew out to California for pre-season friendlies is thought to be telling in regard to his future.

Ospina featured infrequently last term, but was criticised for a few errors early on.
