According to reports from Mirror Football, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revived his interest in two Serie A stars ahead of the summer transfer window – Roma defender Kostas Manolas and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata.
The Gunners were close to sealing a £12million transfer for Manolas in summer 2013 but the Greek international ended up moving to the Stadio Olimpico instead and has since emerged as one of the most-wanted centre-backs in Serie A – with Chelsea and Everton also believed to be chasing the 24-year-old.
The heart of defence is one of three key areas Wenger will prioritise during the summer transfer window alongside central midfield and centre-forward, with Juve’s Morata being targeted in regards to the latter position.
Arsenal also attempted to acquire the 23-year-old two summers ago as he left Real Madrid, but eventually missed out to the Serie A champions. He’s impressed for the Old Lady, netting five times in Europe as they reached last season’s Champions League final.
But the Spain international’s situation remains rather complicated. Juventus are reluctant to part with Morata, whilst Real Madrid could activate a £23million buy-back clause – before selling on the 6 foot 2 striker for considerably more.
