Arsenal boss risks angering fans with transfer confession

Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted the club may be unable to make any signings in time for the season’s kick off in just under two weeks, according to the Daily Star.

The Gunners have come under fire for their failure to bring in any of their top targets during the close season, and now Wenger’s comments are set to trigger more anger and frustration from Gunners fans.

While the club have been strongly linked with moves for the likes of Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney, only French teenager Yaya Sanogo has completed a move to the Emirates thus far.

The club had been hoping to add players before their Champions League qualifier, and with the Gunners set to discover who they face on Friday, Wenger has revealed there may be no new additions before the August 12 deadline.

“Let’s count on what is here first of all and if we can add something, we will do,” he said.

“It is very difficult to predict that it will all be sorted out before we play in the Champions League qualifier.

“What we want to do is have enough quality to achieve it with the players we have at the moment.

“If we can have some more in before that, it is even better.”

The Gunners face Aston Villa in the Premier League opener on August 17, before the first leg of their Champions League qualifier, due to take place on August 20.
