Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he’s worried that overusing Calum Chambers may have burnt out the youngster.
The 19-year-old right-back was snapped up by the Gunners chief over the summer from Southampton after an impressive breakthrough campaign in 2013/14.
Although dubbed one for the future upon his move to the Emirates Stadium, the teenager has played a big role for the Londoners of late, thanks to a series of injuries to key defensive personnel.
Operating in his preferred role on the right hand side, in the centre of the backline and even in a midfield position, Chambers has already made 21 appearances for Arsenal, notching one goal in the process.
The starlet’s recent showings have been criticised by some, and Wenger has revealed that he’s worried by the demands he’s placed on him:
“For a 19-year-old, he has played too many games.” He is quoted by The Metro. “They all hit the wall after 15-17 games.
“You have to give them a breather. To have that level of responsibility in every single game is a lot at that age.”
