Arsenal close in on ‘new David Villa’

Arsenal have opened talks with Sporting Gijon for impressive young striker Carlos Castro, according to reports from The Metro.

The 19-year-old currently plies his trade in the second tier of Spanish football, but that hasn’t stopped him from gaining attention in recent times.

Castro is currently a part of Gijon’s promotion hopeful squad, and his fledgling performances have drawn comparisons with those of a young David Villa – who now plays for New York City FC after winning the La Liga title with both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as well as the World Cup with his nation.

And this has not gone unnoticed by Arsene Wenger, whose side are understood to be in talks with the teenager’s club side.

Gijon are believed to be aware that they’ll struggle to keep hold of the Spain U-21 international, who has seven goals in 19 games to his name this term.
