Arsenal close to sealing stellar summer signing in €40m transfer deal

According to reports from Sport 1, Arsenal are on the verge of wrapping up a transfer deal for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international has been in fine form this season, averaging the most successful passes per match of any non-Bayern Munich player in the Bundesliga as well as 2.4 tackles, 2.8 interceptions and 1.1 dribbles.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window and Sport 1 claim they’ve now all-but-concluded a deal to make him one of their major signings of the offseason.

The German publication alleges that due to Xhaka’s contract not expiring for another three years, the transfer will be worth somewhere between the region of €30million and €40million.

It’s assumed Xhaka is being targeted as a replacement for Arsenal’s ageing midfield trio Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini, who all look set to leave the club on free transfers when their contract expires this summer.
