Arsenal close to snatching Liverpool-linked Bundesliga midfielder from Klopp’s grasp

Arsenal are on the verge of sealing a £35.4m summer move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to reports from Bild.

The Switzerland international has developed a reputation as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Bundesliga since his 2012 move to Borussia-Park from FC Basel, with his performances having already led to suggestions that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken to the player’s agent about a potential switch in a few months’ time.

However, reports claim that Arsenal have all but won the race for the commanding 23-year-old, with a deal close.

There aren’t many details given in regard to the terms, other than a €45m (£35.4m) fee, but it’s rumoured that Arsene Wenger has already held discussions with Xhaka’s representatives.

The Gladbach ace appears to be an ideal replacement for the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, who are both out of contract in a few months’ time.
