Arsenal confirm first January signing and it’s a defender

Arsenal have confirmed Swedish youth defender Kristopher de Graca has signed pro terms with the club, as reported by the Daily Star.

The 17-year-old joined the Gunners from Swedish outfit Hisingsbacka last summer and is part of Arsenal’s under-18 side.

The Gunners are in the market for a defender this month, and have been linked with moves for Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk, West Ham’s Winston Reid and Borussia Dortmund centre-half Mats Hummels.

And the Gunners are also close to sealing a move for Polish teenager Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw, with the midfielder understood to be in London to discuss personal terms and to undergo a medical.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is eager to sign a defender this month, with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny being the only recognised centre-backs in the first-team squad.

Arsenal enjoyed a surprise 2-0 victory away to Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday, which has put them to within a point of fourth placed Manchester United.
