Arsenal considering Bayern striker swoop

Arsenal are pondering a summer move for Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are known to be in the market for a top class goal scorer, with Arsene Wenger thought to be unsure as to whether or not Olivier Giroud has the quality to spearhead a title charge.

Mandzukic has been mooted as a target for some time, and it now appears that the Londoners are exploring the possibility of a swoop.

The Croatian star has been one of Bayern’s top performers as they’ve established themselves as, arguably, European football’s top club force in recent years, but he looks set to lose his starting berth next season.

The Bundesliga and Champions League holders have already agreed a deal to bring in Robert Lewandowski from bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund, and the Poland international is likely to walk straight into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI on the back of an excellent few campaigns at the Westfalenstadion.

Arsenal have had scouts scouring Germany for top names ahead of the summer window, and although Nurnberg’s Josip Drmic has surfaced as a target Mandzukic is seen as a ready made solution.

However, Bayern are believed to be unwilling to sell unless the player himself seeks a move.
