Arsenal are considering a surprise move for Liverpool's Alberto Moreno when his contract expires next summer, according to The Mirror.

What's the word?

Unai Emery has led Arsenal valiantly so far as the Gunners prepare for Monday's clash with Leicester City on the back of a nine-match winning streak across all competitions but there is still plenty of room for improvements.

Emery is keen to bolster his defensive options at the club and The Mirror states a surprise swoop for Liverpool's Alberto Moreno is being considered, with the Reds likely to allow the Spaniard to leave for nothing next summer.

Arsenal's quest for a new full-back comes with Nacho Monreal in the twilight years of his career and Sead Kolasinac being unfancied by Emery so far, while early-season injuries to the pair led Ainsley Maitland-Niles to fill-in at left-back.

A good addition?

Moreno, also a reported target for Barcelona and Real Madrid, is still only 26 and has plenty of years ahead of him in his career. However, he has often struggled for form at Liverpool and would be a concerning option if he was considered as first-choice.

With Monreal looking likely to lave the Emirates at the end of the season when his contract expires as things stand, he could easily find himself ahead of Kolasinac in the pecking order.

Moreno often faces the same criticism as the Bosnian, with both considered to be strong going forward but weak defensively.
