Having arrived on a season-long loan from Real Madrid last summer, it’s fair to say Dani Ceballos hasn’t exactly enjoyed the greatest of times at the Emirates. The Spain international has made just 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
A muscle injury saw him miss 11 games over the festive period, and he only recently returned to take a place on the bench.
Unsurprisingly perhaps, according to Spanish journalist Antonio Romero (via Carrusel Deportivo), Ceballos has contacted parent club Madrid in the hope of cancelling his loan – it’s further reported that he is keen on playing more minutes in order to ensure his place for Spain’s EURO 2020 squad.
After hearing about the reports of Ceballos’ potential early exit, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.
No probl tbh😅

Because Arteta is building a team, no point wasting a starting spot on a player that wont be here next year.

Ceballos have been really poor the games he played apart from his debut. Offers nothing. Doesn’t assist or score and is not good of the ball either. A younger version of the current Mesut Ozil.

A couple of fans hearkened back to Ceballos’ performance against Burnley, when he provided an assist, had 97 touches, and completed all four of his attempted dribbles as per Sofascore.
Thanks for that burnley game but it is time to say good bye

Not a case of not good enough (he was excellent against Burley and subsequently played away from his usual position before being stalled by injury) but rather not worth Mikel’s time and investment since our club is merely a stopover for Dani.

A couple of fans of the north London side however took a different take on the matter, instead voicing their concerns over why they were letting him go, and insisting that they could live to regret it in the future.
I still don’t know why arteta never plays ceballos, he has been fit for over 4games now for arsenal but arteta has refused to use him. I hope artea doesn’t have agenda against him like emery had against ozil,I think it’s our loss if ceballos joins another club on loan.#COYG pic.twitter.com/GtsNlH9fSQ

I think we will regret this in the future

If Ceballos does end up terminating his loan with Arsenal early, then that would speak volumes of the Gunners’ mismanagement of the midfielder. Whilst the Spaniard has missed chunks of the season through injury, it was surely up to Unai Emery and now Mikel Arteta to try and get the best out of the 23-year-old.
Instead, the north London side look set to lose a player who they fended off competition from Tottenham to sign in the summer. After starting the campaign in fine fettle with an assist against Burnley, Ceballos’ time at the Emirates may be coming to a disappointing end.
