Arsenal dealt suspension blow

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is in danger of having his one match ban extended to two, according to The Telegraph.

The Polish stopper was sent off in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night and was filmed making obscene gesture as he left the field.

And UEFA’s disciplinary committee are now deciding whether to charge Szczesny with unsporting behaviour, which would see his one game ban extended to two. Any action taken will depend on whether referee Nicola Rizzoli mentions the incident in his post-match report.

It is not known who the gesture was aimed at, but it was not seen by Rizzoli. But the official does not have to have seen the incident to include it in his post-match report.

Szczesny will already miss Arsenal’s last-16 second-leg with Bayern Munich at the Alianz Arena, and any further suspension will carry over to next season if the Gunners are eliminated.
