Arsenal defender beats Stoke at own game

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny scored an easy headed goal against Mark Hughes’ Stoke City to put the Gunners in front today. The French international was allowed to run unmarked into the box and put the ball away with his head.

The opportunity came from a second ball from a corner, with the Stoke City defence at sea. Such sloppy defending is uncharacteristic of Stoke City, and certainly wouldn’t have been tolerated under the reign of Tony Pulis. If anything it was a very ‘Arsenal’ goal that Stoke conceded.

The assist was once again provided by Alexis Sanchez, who has now registered seven assists in the Premier League this season. Six of these have come at the Emirates, where Arsenal have lost just one of their last 27 Barclays Premier League games (W18 D8 L1).

Stoke will be confident of getting back into the match as the Gunners have been unable to keep a clean sheet in their last six games.
