Lee Dixon has hit out at Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi for the way he is carrying himself following the club’s 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday, per The Handbrake Off podcast (February 25, 22:52).

What’s he said?

The podcast also involves journalist Amy Lawrence and she told a story of how his whole demeanour has changed, comparing him with Olivia Newton John’s character in the film Grease, as she undergoes a remarkable transformation at the end of the movie.

Indeed, she claimed that he was a “new man” and Dixon, a former Arsenal defender himself, took exception to the behaviour of the Germany international.

Indeed, the Gunners defender has played just eight Premier League games thus far this season.

He said: “And he seriously needs to have a word for himself, pipe down a little bit.

“Bang out 25 appearances and like, you know, 15 clean sheets and he can do what he wants with his hair and his sunglasses, but just sit back down for a bit and just carry on.”

Spot on

Dixon is right.

Mustafi may be back in the team under Mikel Arteta – he has started all of their last five games – but in his eight league appearances, Arsenal have kept just two clean sheets.

They have conceded, in that time, a total of eight goals.

Changing his whole demeanour, then, may be a bit too swift of a reaction from the German, whose side are currently ninth in the table, seven points off the top four.

Mustafi ought to take Dixon’s words of advice on board and knuckle down as the season reaches its crunch point.

Otherwise, he risks being seen as something of a pariah.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are said to be ready to pay this man's release clause!
