Arsenal extremely confident of closing blockbuster £46.8m playmaker deal

Arsenal are increasingly confident that superstar playmaker Mesut Ozil will put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the club, according to Football Insider.

Despite initially struggling to justify his blockbuster £42.5m price tag when joining from Real Madrid in 2013, the German has been in sensational form for much of the last year.

With 18 Premier League assists already to his name, the World Cup winner is on the verge of breaking Thierry Henry’s record of 20 in a single top flight season.

Such is the nature of his stellar form, he has been linked with a return to Spain and a mega move to European champions Barcelona.

He also recently implored the Gunners to improve their work in the transfer market after watching another title challenge all but crumble.

However, the North London giants are thought to be very confident that an agreement stretching until 2021 has been put in place, worth around £46.8m to the midfielder.

It is understood to earn him around £180,000 a week and include a number of incentive based bonuses.

Currently believed to be commanding a weekly wage of around £130,000, the 27-year old is said to be the club’s highest earner, narrowly eclipsing Alexis Sanchez.
