Arsenal eye £32m Man United target

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to pay £32m to beat Manchester United to German defender Mats Hummels, according to reports from Fichajes.

The World Cup winning centre-back is currently thought of as one of the planet’s best players in his position, and has been linked with the Red Devils for some time.

Louis van Gaal chased him for much of the summer, but after failing to land him a fresh offer in January has been mooted.

Yet Wenger is ready to beat his rival to the Dortmund ace with a massive £32m bid.

The Frenchman has already confessed that he’s looking to draft in a new central defender in the winter after missing out on a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen during the last window.

Although he has reputation for cautious spending, Wenger is keen to dedicate a big fee to snapping up Hummels, who he sees as the future of his Gunners backline.

The 25-year-old has indicated that he’s happy to stay at BVB, but the lure of a big salary may convince him to become the latest big name to leave the club.
