Arsenal eye bargain La Liga striker

Romania's Ciprian MaricaArsenal are considering a January move for Getafe striker Ciprian Marica, according to reports from The Metro.

The Gunners are widely expected to strengthen their attacking line over the winter, with Arsene Wenger aware that his side have very little in the way of alternative options to the in-form Olivier Giroud.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Christian Benteke of Aston Villa are two names to have been consistently linked with the London club over the past few weeks, but now Marica has emerged as an alternative.

The Romanian was released by Schalke at the end of last season and only completed a free move to Getafe in September – despite rumoured interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

But, Wenger is ready to launch another offer for the 28-year-old, who he sees as a cost-effective alternative to other names on his wishlist.

Marica has made a relatively impressive start to life with the Madrid club, and is thought to be open to a switch to England despite having only been at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez for a few months.

The Eastern European has a wealth of experience, having played for the likes of Stuttgart, Shakhtar Donetsk and Schalke during his career and is believed to be available for a fraction of the fee the likes of Benzema and Benteke would command
